YorckShare is always more than the sum of its parts. The foundation for everything we do here doesn’t come from working alone—it’s made possible through collaboration with our partners. Here, we’d like to introduce some of them to you:
A cooperative bank and “the world’s first ecological bank” – GLS stands for “Gemeinschaftsbank für Leihen und Schenken” (Community Bank for Lending and Giving). Instead of speculating on international financial markets, GLS provides loans to sustainable entrepreneurs who want to create socially, ecologically, and economically meaningful projects… and that includes us.
Our home is a special neighborhood right by Gleisdreieck Park. What began as an initiative by Berlin residents has grown into something truly unique: “A communal and intergenerational housing complex that is ecological, sustainable, accessible, and socially minded.”
Sustainability starts right at the light switch — YorckShare runs on green electricity that couldn’t be more local. In the Möckern neighborhood, there’s a combined heat and power plant powered entirely by bio-natural gas, supplying energy to all buildings through a local heating network. Additionally, five photovoltaic systems on the rooftops generate extra electricity for the neighborhood.
